Sore Throat Prevention

If sore throat prevention is on your mind, it is safe to assume that you have suffered from this ailment in the past and are not interested in doing so again in the future.

Unfortunately, there is no sure fire way to prevent a sore throat. Even if you take all the necessary steps to reduce your risk, there is no way of saying for sure that you will never run into this problem again in the future.

Since the germs that cause bacterial and viral infections are contagious, the best thing you can do is practice good hygiene. Here are some tips you can follow:

  • Wash your hands frequently, especially after using the restroom, before eating, and after coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid sharing food, glasses, or eating utensils with others.
  • If possible, cough or sneeze into a tissue as opposed to your hands. From there, throw the tissue away.
  • If you are not able to wash your hands with soap and water, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Regularly clean your computer keyboard, telephones, and television remotes.
  • Attempt to avoid contact with anybody who is sick.

In addition to the personal hygiene tips detailed above, here are several other ideas to consider:

  • When pollution and/or allergens are high outdoors, do your best to stay indoors when possible.
  • Smoking can cause a chronic sore throat (among other problems). Now is the time to cut this out of your life.
  • Humidify your home if the dry air is causing your sore throat.

When it comes to sore throat prevention you can only do so much. By taking the steps above, you can reduce your risk of getting a sore throat and being faced with finding a treatment method that yields results.
